Wright Library Patrons Call for Discussion on Possible Tax Measure
The Ventura County Star reports that residents hoping to prevent the closure of Wright Library have proposed a fundraising campaign, and have asked the City Council to consider a possible tax measure, to close the gap between costs and funding for the County library and other City services.

The City Council will discuss the request at its Feb. 2 meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 501 Poli Street. Residents are welcome to attend and make public comment.

Standard & Poor's Upgrades City of Ventura Credit Rating to AA-
Standard and Poor's Ratings Services (S&P) recently reviewed the financial position of the City of Ventura and raised its rating from "A" to "AA-." The highest rating S&P issues is "AAA." The positive rating action reflects their opinion, expressed in a five-page report, "that the city's maintenance of a very strong financial position for a sustained period, coupled with a minimum general fund balance policy, positions it well to weather economic down cycles such as the one it is currently experiencing."

The S&P rating is a significant determinant used by the credit markets in making money available to the city for future borrowing, as well as determining the interest rate the City will pay for any funds obtained.
