Street Sweeping

4 ways to find out when your streets are swept:

  1. Instantly, with this web form
  2. By viewing the Ventura street sweeping map
  3. By viewing the Ventura street sweeping calendar (pdf)
  4. or by calling (805) 652-4515

Move It!

To help protect our environment, residential streets are swept once a month on the day after trash collection in most neighborhoods. Residents should use the link above to determine which day of the month your street is swept. Support Ventura's effort to Go Green by moving your car and/or motor home between 7am - 4pm so that sweepers can pick up more trash and debris along the curb.

Don't Dump, Drains to the Ocean

Your small action can make a difference. Did you know that any debris entering stormdrain inlets flows untreated into our waterways and beaches? Litter, leaves, pet wastes, grass clippings, and sediments all cause pollution on our beautiful coast and can harm our marine environment. Regular street sweeping reduces this kind of pollution! Cleaner storm drains also flood less, preventing property damage during storms.

Understanding the Schedule

The map shows which day of the month the street is scheduled for sweeping, for example, 2nd Tuesday. The "2nd Tuesday" generally indicates that trash is collected weekly on Mondays and the street will be swept on the second Tuesday of the month. (If you look at a monthly calendar, you will see that the 1st day of the month falls on varying days of the week. Count on the calendar each month to find the exact day for the 2nd Tuesday or 4th Friday, etc.) If you have any questions or need additional information, please call Public Works at 652-4515.

Sweeping Frequencies

The street sweeping map represents the most current information regarding the schedule and will be updated regularly. A few areas with posted street sweeping signs requiring vehicles to be removed from the streets will not change schedules at this time. The posted streets include Pierpont, Montalvo, Saratoga, Aurora and North Bank and are noted on the map. While the sweeping will generally follow the day after a trash pick-up once a month, some areas may be swept two days later.

Roads in commercial and industrial areas and arterial streets are swept twice monthly at night when traffic is light. Some highly used public areas, such as Ventura's downtown, are swept more frequently.

Sweeping will follow the same holiday schedule used by the trash collection routes so that trash and sweeping will be delayed one day following select holidays. For a list of holidays, check the "Trash Flash" distributed by E.J. Harrison & Sons (the City's contracted street sweeping service) or call 647-1414.

Green Waste Is Composted

Every day, sweepers pick up around 15 cubic yards of mixed materials, which is mostly yard waste. The most common litter collected by the sweepers includes fast food wrappers and cigarette butts. After the litter is removed, the green waste is recycled into compost, which helps the environment and reduces solid waste going to the landfill by approximately 2,000 tons annually. Between monthly sweepings, residents can help by using a broom and dustpan to remove litter and other debris, which collects along the curb fronting your home.
