Neighborhood Traffic Management Program

Bicycling / Walking
This program promotes, supports, and develops alternative forms of transportation as directed by the Circulation Element, General Bikeway Plan and Vision Plan. The City of Ventura Transportation Section conceives and initiates projects, and is a liasion to the City of Ventura Community Development Department. In addition, staff manages existing programs such as the dissemination of alternative transportation information and safety programs to businesses and special interest groups.

Bicycle Programs
support non-auto and auto alternative improvements to Ventura's transportation system consistent with policies of the Circulation Element, General Bikeway Plan and others.Ventura updated its General Bikeway Plan on December 1999. A copy of the plan is available by calling (805) 654-7769.

Biking can be a fun and healthy alternative to using your car for commuting to work or running local errands around town. There are many references available to help you get started. One excellent source of information is called “Bicycling Street Smarts.” This book is available at any local or on-line book store or can be read on-line at http://www.bikexprt.com/streetsmarts/usa/index.htm

Public Transit
Gold Coast Transit (formerly SCAT) operates 14 regular bus routes and a senior/disabled paratransit service. Serves the cities of Ojai, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Ventura and the county area between them. Most routes run Monday - Saturday with some routes running Sunday
as well. Many routes now have weekday service until 9 p.m. Call (805) 487-4222 or

Ventura Intercity Transit Authority (VISTA) operates 4 regular bus routes and two general public dial-a-ride services. Contact the Ventura County Transportation Commission at
(805) 642-1591. Information is also available on the VCTC website.

Amtrak prvides national and regional rail service to the City of Ventura at the train platform located at Seaside Park on Harbor Boulevard. Scheduling and stop information is available at (800) 872-7245 or on the Amtrak website.

Metrolink is a premier regional rail system, including commuter and other passenger services, linking communities to employment and activity centers. Metrolink provides reliable transportation and mobility for the region. Current service is provided to the City of Oxnard. Service will be extended into Ventura once the new train platform is constructed in the Montalvo area off of Ventura Boulevard.
