Ventura Restaurant Week returns to celebrate local cuisine and support local economy, November 6 - 10
During Ventura Restaurant Week’s celebration of fine local cuisine, choose from 40 local restaurants and get a great, delicious deal. Discover new restaurants and enjoy all your favorites at a discounted price. Participating restaurants offer a three-course dinner for $20 per person (excluding tax and tip) or $20 for two people -- depending on the restaurant. Reservations are encouraged; a full list of participating restaurants is available at www.venturarestaurantweek.com.
“The Restaurant Week model is a national trend for supporting mom and pop independent restaurants,” said Community Development Director Jeffrey Lambert, “By dining locally, Venturans are supporting not just the individual restaurant; they are also supporting our entire local economy, local jobs and increased tax revenue for the City.” According to data gathered from last year’s inaugural event, 2010 Restaurant Week generated more than $21,000 in local tax revenue during a traditionally slow time season.
Countywide, the produce industry infuses $1.6 billion dollar into the local economy. Among the largest crops to be exported and consumed locally are strawberries, lemons, celery, raspberries, tomatoes, avocados, cut flowers, peppers and oranges. “Almost all the produce I use for my cooking is local and organic”, said Chef Tim Kilcoyne of the Sidecar Restaurant, “I actually moved to Ventura to be closer to the source.”
Patrons will have an opportunity to meet Ventura local and Season Two Runner-Up on TV's Master Chef, Chef Adrien Nieto. He will be creating a special menu and cooking at Zoey's on Sunday, November 6th. “I’m really excited to be a part of this event and cook for my hometown,” said Nieto, “I hope I can make Chef Ramsey proud.” Another TV show helmed by Chef Gordon Ramsey, Kitchen Nightmares, recently renovated and helped makeover the Greek at the Harbor restaurant. The episode will air on Fox TV on Friday, Oct. 28th.
“Partnerships are the key to Restaurant Week’s success,” said Community Development Manager Peter Brown, “By working in tandem with the Downtown Ventura Partnership, the Ventura Harbor Village, the Ventura Visitors and Convention Bureau and our sponsors, we’re able to create a fantastic, cost effective event.” As a new feature this year, participating restaurants have had the opportunity to work with professional consultants from the Economic Development Collaborative of Ventura County (EDC-VC) to enhance their marketing efforts and attract new customers.
