On July 27, 2010 at approximately 5:00 p.m., Ventura Police Detectives, along with Patrol officers, located the suspect vehicle involved in the attempted robbery. The vehicle, which was a reported stolen car, was originally found in the area of Borchard Dr. and Thompson Blvd. The vehicle fled from officers into the neighborhood near Santa Cruz and Ocean Ave, and after parking in the area, both suspects fled on foot into the surrounding area.
Officers began searching the area, and ultimately both suspects were located and arrested. At the conclusion of the investigation Stephanie Vaivoa was charged with attempted robbery (related to the original offense above) and conspiracy to commit automobile theft. Daniel Gonzalez was charged with theft of an automobile. Both were booked into Ventura County Jail.

Narrative:
On the above date and time the Ventura Police Dept Command Center received several 911 calls regarding a robbery in progress. The victim Janet Newton was walking along the storefronts at the Ross shopping center when the suspect confronted her. The suspect demanded her purse and Newton refused to part with her property. The suspect then grabbed a hold of Newton’s purse and tried to pull it away from her. Newton struggled to maintain control of her purse and at the same time she began screaming for assistance.
A witness saw Newton in distress and went to help her against the suspect. The suspect was unable to steal the purse and was seen running to a waiting vehicle with a lookout driver. The two suspects were seen fleeing from the shopping center in a white colored vehicle. The vehicle was last seen traveling southbound on Telephone Rd.
