Narrative:
On January 23, 2011, at 10:07 a.m., the Ventura Police Command Center received a call from a motorist driving on the 33 freeway adjacent to the Ventura River. The motorist reported seeing several men battering another man with a baseball bat on the levy across from Westpark.
Upon arrival a police officer found the victim, across the freeway, on the bike path just north of Westpark bleeding from multiple wounds. The officer also determined the victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the torso and was robbed of property.
Responding officers checked the area but were unable to locate any suspects.
The victim was transported to Ventura County Medical Center and underwent emergency surgery. He is expected to survive his injuries.
