Ventura City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in mid-town Ventura. A bystander shopping at a nearby market saw smoke and alerted 911. Upon arrival of the first due engine, firefighters found a single story residence with smoke emitting from the structure. Firefighters forced entry, attacked the fire, searched for victims and investigated for extension into concealed areas. This is another example where early detection and notification to 911 coupled with aggressive firefighting tactics stopped a fire in the early stages and minimized damage and loss. The Ventura City Fire Department would like to remind the public to keep combustibles away from heaters at all times.
