Ventura City Fire units responded to a reported leak from a rail car that had been parked on the tracks overnight. The calling party reported a hissing sound emitting from the car. Upon the arrival of the first due engine, the area was isolated and entry to the area was denied while a hazard investigation was conducted by on-scene crews. Vista Del Mar was closed to through traffic and the tracks were shut down as a precaution during the initial investigative phase. On scene crews utilized sophisticated equipment to monitor the air and ensure that no dangerous vapors were present. Investigation revealed that no product from the involved car leaked and the hissing sound heard was a mechanical failure on the train and did not involve the storage of the product identified as petroleum crude oil. Union Pacific sent mechanics to the scene to repair the rail car.
