Public Invited to Learn about Summer Concert Series and Provide Feedback at Community Meeting
Residents and businesses in Ventura are invited to attend two community meetings to learn about the proposed Summer Concert Series in downtown Ventura behind City Hall. The public meetings will be held April 30 and May 24 at 6pm in the Community Meeting Room at Ventura City Hall, 501 Poli Street.
Music promoters, Mark Hartley and Nederlander Concerts, are proposing to host a series of up to twelve concerts at the Ventura City Hall Upper Parking Lot beginning in July with the last show in October 2012. Attendance to the event is estimated to be up to 1,900 per concert. Plans are underway to manage the potential impacts of this exciting series and take advantage of the potential economic boost to Ventura’s downtown.
The purpose of the meetings is for the City and concert promoters to work closely with residents to address issues or concerns and impacts on the community. At the April 30 meeting, concert organizers will present event details and initial impact mitigation plans. City staff will be on-hand to explain permit requirements and the public will have the opportunity to provide feedback. Supplementary information and resolutions will be discussed during the second meeting on Thursday, May 24.
City costs to host and permit the concert series will be paid for by the promoters. All events would end by 10pm and measures to minimize noise, traffic and parking impacts are being developed; performers for the events have not been announced.
The concert series is intended to raise awareness and funds for the proposed Ventura Botanical Gardens; the events will offer local economic benefits by drawing visitors from outside the area to our restaurants, hotels and other local businesses.
