Construction crews working in the area repairing the City’s water system ruptured a 2” medium pressure gas service line. Fire crews responded and secured the area and provided stand-by fire protection. Occupants in near-by businesses were advised to remain sheltered in place. Fire crews worked with Gas Company and construction crews to coordinate the control of the leak. Ignition briefly occurred at the source of the leak and the cause was attributed to static electricity build up from the free flowing gas. No injuries were reported and the fire was contained to the source by firefighters. Business along Morse Avenue between Market and Transport were briefly interrupted but remained open.
