Ventura City Fire Department units responded to a reported structure fire in a commercial retail store. Upon arrival of first unit on scene, the fire was determined to be in a storage enclosure joined to the main building and loading dock area. Firefighters utilized a hose line to completely extinguish the fire that was being held in check by the building’s fire
sprinkler system. The adjacent area was checked for hidden fire extension with none found. Investigation revealed carelessly discarded smoking material as the cause. The estimated content loss is $1,000 with no structural damage. In this incident, the properly functioning sprinkler and alarm systems were essential in not allowing the fire to progress and providing for early notification to Ventura City Fire Department. These factors coupled with safe, aggressive
fire attack allowed for a small fire to remain small and ultimately the business was able to return to normal operation within a very short period of time.
