City of Ventura Offices will be closed during Winter Shutdown, December 24 - 31

From December 24 through December 31, some City offices and facilities will be closed for a weeklong winter shutdown.  The following locations will be closed as noted, and will re-open Monday, January 3:

  • Aquatics Center, 901 S. Kimball Road  (closed Dec. 20 - Jan. 2 for annual maintenance)
  • Avenue Senior Center, 550 N. Ventura Avenue (closed Dec. 24 - Jan. 2)
  • Senior Nutrition Programs at the Eastside Café, 650 S. Petit Avenue and the Westside Café, 550 N. Ventura Avenue  (closed Dec. 24 - Jan. 2)
However, patrons will be offered a weeklong supply of food prior to the closure.
  • Maintenance Yard, 336 San Jon Road (closed Dec. 24 - Jan. 2)
  • Senior Recreation Center, 420 E. Santa Clara Street  (closed Dec. 24 - Jan. 2)
  • Ventura City Hall, 501 Poli Street (closed Dec. 24 - Jan. 2)
  • Westpark Community Center, 450 W. Harrison Avenue will be closed Dec. 24, 25, 31 and January 1, but will be open on regularly scheduled days from 2:30pm - 6pm.

Water customers who need service activated or discontinued during the closure should call the Water Billing Office at 667-6500 before Wednesday, December 22 to make arrangements.  For water-related emergencies during the closure, please contact Ventura Police Dispatch at 650-8010.

Police and Fire services will not be affected by the shutdown, and the public reception lobby at Police and Fire Headquarters will remain open at 1425 Dowell Drive.

City Manager Rick Cole explains the winter shutdown as a way of  "focusing on delivering the highest and best level of service to our citizens -- while living within our means.  Public demand for customer service plummets during the holidays.  We've found that we maximize efficiency and save utility costs by closing our offices during the last week in December."

Details related to closure dates will be posted online, at City Hall and on the City Information line at 805-654-7800.
