City of Ventura Employee and Supervisor of the year announced
On April 13, 2011, the City of Ventura held an awards ceremony at City Hall to recognize nine employees who were nominated for 2010 Employee of the Year and six employees who were nominated for 2010 Supervisor of the Year. These awards recognize city employees who are role models for public service and who exemplify the City's commitment to excellence.
The nine nominees for Employee of the Year were:
Anita Diaz – Parks, Recreation & Community Partnerships
Al Gomez – Police Department
Marcia Grambling – Parks, Recreation & Community Partnerships
Anna Gutierrez – Water Utility
Rosie Ornelas – Parks, Recreation & Community Partnerships
Laura Pfeifer – Public Works
Nathan Slack – Parks, Recreation & Community Partnerships
Andy Torrez – Parks, Recreation & Community Partnerships
Tom Vos – Fire Department
The six nominees for Supervisor of the Year were:
Sam Arroyo – Police Department
Yolanda Bundy – Community Development
Chip Tarleton – Parks, Recreation & Community Partnerships
Carl Valdez – Public Works
Ryan Weeks – Police Department
Bonnie Wiley – Parks, Recreation & Community Partnerships
City Manager Rick Cole acknowledged all the nominees who he says, "reaffirmed the commitment to excellence of so much of our workforce."
Anita Diaz, who championed the WestPark Center and successfully led its tranformation into the heart of the community, was named 2010 Employee of the Year. "Anita truly embodies `Team Spirit' and infuses it into everything she does," said Cole. Carl Valdez, who heads the City's street maintenance crews, was named 2010 Supervisor of the Year. Cole described Valdez's position as a "highly visible job that is a lightning rod for criticism" and said Valdez "has the heart and drive of a leader."
