Incident: Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Narrative:
On the above date and time, a citizen hailed the two on-duty Downtown Ventura Police Department parking enforcement Cadets and reported seeing two vagrants in a physical altercation on Figueroa Plaza south of Main St. The Cadets responded to the area and located Decker lying on the ground, bleeding from a head wound.
Officers responded to the scene and learned that Decker was talking to several other vagrants, when for unknown reasons he became involved in a physical altercation with the suspect. Witnesses, who had contacted the cadets, reported seeing the suspect hitting Decker’s head against a nearby tile bench. The suspect fled from the scene on foot in an unknown direction.
Decker was treated at the scene by Ventura City Fire personnel and then transported to VCMC with moderate head injuries.
The investigation is continuing.
