2010 Mayor's Arts Awards recipients announced

Ventura Mayor Bill Fulton is pleased to announce the winners of the 2010
Mayor's Arts Awards. This program was created to honor major contributions of individuals, organizations and businesses to Ventura through the arts; cultivate greater visibility and understanding of the value of the arts; and build new leadership and develops patrons for the arts.

The 2010 Mayor's Arts Award Honorees are:

• Helen Yunker - Arts Patron
• Jack Halbert - Artist in the Community
• Sylvia White - Creative Entrepreneur
• Margaret Travers - Arts Leader
• Bob Moskowitz - Arts Educator
• Chris Jay  - Emerging Artist

Nomination information and qualifications for each of the 2010 Mayor's Arts Awards Honorees can be found online at www.cityofventura.net/mayors_arts_awards.

In September, a selection panel representing philanthropic, educational, and cultural interests was convened to review nominations for this year. Using criteria established in the awards guidelines, the panel reviewed a total of eighteen nominations in six categories. After deliberations, scoring, and final rankings, one honoree was selected from each of the six categories. The panel's recommendations were forwarded to Mayor Fulton for his approval.
