Westside Neighborhood Recycling and Collection Event on June 7
Westside residents have an opportunity to discard e-waste and recycle unwanted household items free of charge on Saturday, June 7, 2014, 8 am-12 pm, or until full, as part of the Westside Community Cleanup and Recycling Event.
The event’s collection site, located at 800 North Ventura Avenue at Kellogg Street, the site of the new Kellogg Park, will accept items such as metal, wood, furniture, appliances, tires, and electronic waste. Household hazardous waste such as motor oil, batteries and paint will not be accepted at this location. Ventura residents can dispose of household hazardous waste on June 21 by visiting Gold Coast Recycling, 5275 Colt St. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 652-4525.
The annual event is sponsored by the City of Ventura's Volunteer Ventura! Program, Westside Community Council, Westside Community Development Corporation (WCDC), and the City of Ventura's Community Development Department through a grant from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The purpose of the federally funded CDBG program is the development of viable urban communities. The City of Ventura uses CDBG grant funds for activities that provide decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expanded economic opportunities primarily for people of low and moderate income.
The Boys & Girls Club will be on hand to collect e-waste and gently used items for resale in their thrift store. All thrift store proceeds support Boys & Girls Club programs. The City’s Environmental Sustainability office will distribute free motor oil recycling kits.
