ENTER THE NEW 2017 CONTEST BY October 2, 2017

Photographers of all ages are invited to enter their best high resolution images celebrating our community in the 12th annual City of Ventura Photography Contest between January 1 and October 2, 2017. Entering is easy, free and by email. For more information contact Peter Graves at 805.658.4781 or pgraves@cityofventura.net

CRITERIA: The mission of the contest is to celebrate the City of Ventura, therefore all photos entered must be taken within our city limits or directly adjacent--beaches, mountains, Channel Islands, etc. Photos taken of locations outside the City of Ventura will be disqualified, as will low resolution images that cannot be well reproduced in printed materials. Be sure to set your camera or smart phone settings at the highest possible resolution for best results.

There are two ways to win: (1) People's Choice by online votes; and (2) Judges' Choice by visual art professionals.

Voters and Judges will select images that best depict Ventura in three categories (see below).  All participants are invited to a City Hall Bridge Gallery exhibit of winners in the late Fall that includes a reception and City Council presentation. All contestentries are eligible to be featured in citywide publication of print and electronic media with photo credit.

CATEGORIES: Capture Ventura’s beautiful environment, eclectic architecture, active people and vibrant community life, and submit your favorite photographs in three categories:

  1. Environment—sky, beach, mountain, island, park & wildlife scenes
  2. Architectureurban design, cityscapes, landmarks & infrastructure
  3. Culture & Communitychildren & adults in sports & arts activities & at special events

Be sure to set your camera or smart phone settings at the highest possible resolution for best results. Be sure your email program is not set to reduce your attachments to a low resolution format.

RENAME YOUR FILES: File names generated by the digital camera or scan must be RENAMED as follows: enter number of category above (1-5), first and last name of contestant, and short title of photograph ending with 2017photocontest without using capital letters, spaces, underlines or dashes. Vote online for the “People’s Choice Awards” in October 2017

Contestants and members of the public are invited to cast their votes online to select the “People’s Choice” awards for the 2017 City of Ventura Photo Contest by [new deadline supplied soon[.

All new and past participants have been notified by a Constant Contact message that voting is "open." If you wish to add your email to this list, please click here. Other members of the public wishing to vote can access a ballot below.

People's Choice winners and the professional Judges' Choices will be announced in late Fall through a Constant Contact email to all entrants and voters. Winning images will be displayed in the City Hall Bridge Gallery in the late fall and early winter.

Winners and all participants are invited to a Council recognition and Bridge Gallery reception held in late fall at 6 pm at Ventura City Hall, 501 Poli Street. All entries are eligible for City of Ventura print and electronic media with photo credit.

Please note that the photo contest coordinator may reassign some entries to a more appropriate category.

Entries with no voter ID number or labeled "disqualified" are ineligible for selection because they do not meet sufficiently high resolution for print publication and reproduction. These images (if available at high resolution) may be resubmitted for next year's contest if the photographer so desires. Please note that some email programs are set to reduce file attachments to a low resolution format and need to be reset when submitting contest photos.
