Ventura Police Officer at Grant Park

The Ventura Police Department is considered one of the most modern and progressive agencies in California. We currently have 172 employees, of which 127 are sworn officers and 42 are civilian.

We use the most advanced equipment available, coupled with an ambitious training program for all employees. We use a computer-aided dispatch system with mobile digital computers in each patrol car, modern Records Management and Crime Analysis systems, and all officers dictate their reports for transcription.  On average our department handles over 88,000 Calls For Service a year and processes nearly 40,000 reports.

Within the "About the VPD" section of our website you will find information on the various divisions and units which comprise the VPD and the Command Staff members who supervise them. You'll also find Employment information, VPD's History, our memorial to Sergeant Darlon "Dee" Dowell who is the only VPD Officer to die in the line of duty, our department's strategic plan which outlines our goals and performance measures, and a comprehensive FAQs section.
