Fire Hydrant Award

Winner of the Fire Hydrant Award Announced!
Kevin Martinez, a 4th grader at Will Rogers Elementary, is this year’s recipient of the Fire Hydrant Award. All Ventura Unified School District 4th graders attended Fire Safety Days in November to learn about emergency preparedness and fire safety. As part of their English assignment, students wrote an essay about what they learned at Fire Safety Days.
On December 12, 2011, Kevin Martinez was awarded the Fire Hydrant Award by Chief Rennie and members of the Fire Department. The trophy will be on display at Will Rogers Elementary for the school year. Kevin enjoyed his ride in the fire engine from the cafeteria to his classroom.
On December 13, 2011, Kevin Martinez read aloud his winning essay at the Ventura Unified School District Board Meeting, where he received a department hat and a certificate for a special tour and lunch at a fire station.
