Golf Ventura

The City of Ventura offers two championship, 18-hole golf courses created to give players two distinctive golf experiences. Olivas Links and Buenaventura Golf Course are located within three miles of each other in the City of Ventura--40 minutes north of Los Angeles and 30 minutes south of Santa Barbara just off the Victoria Avenue exit of the 101 Freeway.

Buenaventura Golf Course

Buenaventura Golf Course (BGC) offers recreational players and seniors a chance to experience traditional golf with tree-lined fairways and tour-caliber greens. Ranked as Best Public Golf Course Renovation in 2005 by Golf Digest magazine, BGC has become a favorite of residents and visitors alike. BGC was originally designed in 1931, expanded to 18 holes in 1967 by renowned architect William F. Bell, and redesigned in 2005 by Forrest Richardson & Associates.

At the course entryway is The Big Swing by Michael Stutz. This twelve-foot sculpture depicts a golfer completing a tee-off power drive and marks the successful three-year renovation of the golf course as a championship facility. Olivas Links

Olivas Links offers unique challenges for players of all skill levels. The former traditional Olivas Park Golf Course (opened in 1967), reopened as Olivas Links in 2007 as a dramatically redesigned and more challenging links-style course with a distinctly wild look to it. Links comes from a Scottish word referring to an area of coastal sand dunes.

Olivas Links has become the destination of choice for those players looking for a challenging golf experience. In 2009 it was voted a Top 10 municipal golf course in the nation by Golf Week magazine.

Olivas Links is planted with SeaIsle Paspalum a turf that goes through fluctuations in color intensity-bright green in spring and summer and browner as it enters into fall and winter dormancy. Whatever its hue, this turf remains a healthy, durable, smooth and fine-textured playing surface that provides a premium golfing experience throughout the year. Golf Classes

The City of Ventura has golf lessons and classes for every age and level of golfer in your family. Beginning Golf for Women offers a unique opportunity, for women only, to learn the basics of golf in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Beginning Golf for All Ages is an opportunity to learn the basics of golf with family and friends.
