Fire Prevention

Are you prepared for an emergency?

Click here to watch a 3 minute video featuring Fire Marshal Brian Clark on protecting your property with advance planning and preparation.

The Fire Prevention Division is responsible for developing and implementing programs and policies that prevent or reduce the magnitude of emergency occurrences, such as loss of property and life, personal injury or environmental damage. The Division is managed by the Fire Marshal and consists of:

A Fire Prevention Specialist, who reviews, permits and inspects fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, motion picture and television filming, and public firework displays.

Two Hazardous Materials Specialists, who reviews, permits and inspects hazardous materials regulatory programs, including underground storage tanks and commercial business use and storage. They coordinate enforcement programs with the Ventura County Environmental Health Department.

Two Senior Fire Inspectors, who inspect to ensure compliance with fire safety requirements for all new businesses for Certificate of Occupancy, public and private schools, daycares and multi-unit residential occupancies.

A Fire Prevention Technician, who coordinates the weed abatement program and the hazardous materials business plan documentation.

One Office Assistant to provide all clerical support needs for this division.

The Fire Prevention Division also provides technical and logistics support to engine companies when requested as well as numerous other duties throughout the year. These include, but are not limited to, emergency preparedness outreach, inspections at street fairs, Fourth of July fireworks patrol, and nighttime bar checks - in cooperation with the City Police Department - to address fire and life safety compliance and overcrowding.
