Ventura Chosen as One of Top Ten Art Cities by Business Week
Alongside expected locales such as Los Angeles, New York, Santa Fe and San Francisco, Business Week magazine has identified a couple smaller communities such as Kingston, NY and our local Ventura-Thousand Oaks-Oxnard region as some of the best places for artists to live and work.
National Arts Leaders to Convene in Ventura
On Friday, April 20th, City of Ventura Cultural Affairs Division, in partnership with the Ventura County Arts Council and the Ventura County Community Foundation, is proud to host Robert Lynch, CEO & President of Americans for the Arts, as the keynote speaker for the "Arts Leadership in a Changing Environment: New Skills, New Approaches" conference held at Ventura City Hall from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM (with a reception to follow). This annual networking and skill-building convening is intended to draw the regional arts community together and strengthen the capacity of arts organizations and artists.
In addition to the keynote, workshops include a panel discussion featuring James Irvine Foundation Program Director for the Arts, John E. McGuirk, discussing their recently released report "Critical Issues Facing the Arts in California", as well as "hands on" workshops focusing on e-marketing to younger audiences, copyright issues for individual artists, county-wide arts education planning, and individual donor solicitation.

California State Fair Fine Art Juried Show
Entry Deadline: Friday, May 25, 2007
California Fine Art, the juried art show of the California State Fair, seeks entries of contemporary artworks from California artists aged 18 and over. Over $14,500 in prize money will be awarded. Entry fee is $15.00 per artwork.. Divisions and Classes in all 2-D and 3-D media as well as film, video, animation, digital art, and photography.
Special theme divisions include: Western & Equine Art, Recycled Art, The Art of Culture, Vino! The Art of Wine, Java! The Art of Coffee, Plein Air Painting, and "Green Dream" a special division for graphic art. Jury will select artworks from digital images submitted on CD/DVD or via e-mail (do not send 35mm slides), see Handbook for details. Images must accompany entry form and fees.
