Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center

Marina Park--2950 Pierpont Blvd

Our national award-winning U.S. Sailing Association Community Sailing Center holds all classes at Marina Park unless noted otherwise. Instructors are U.S. Sailing & American Sailing Assn. certified. For more information contact 805.643.3612.


Sailing and Kayaking Camps – offered during Fall, Spring & Summer Breaks
9-13 years      
Beginning and intermediate sailors! Spend a week sailing and kayaking in the safety of the Ventura Harbor with dynamic instructors following a nationally recognized U.S. Sailing format.  


Basic Sailing & Women’s Sailing

12 years-Adult

16 hours of instruction follow U.S. Sailing format in protective Ventura Harbor on Catalina Capri 14.2 Sailboats and cover sailing theory, terminology, safety, knots, right-of-way and docking..


Introduction to Small Boat Racing

12 years-Adult

Prereq: Level 1 completed within the last 6 months or instructor approval. Covers pre-race sequences, racing starts, mark roundings, tactics, strategies and sportsmanship using U.S. Sailing Racing Rules.


Small Boat Sailing Level 1

12 years-Adult

Prereq: Basic Sailing completed within last six months or instructor approval. 16 hours of instruction follow U.S. Sailing Keelboat format on 16.5 Catalina Capri Sailboats in Ventura Harbor and offshore and cover: sail shape and trim, tiller extension, overboard recovery, sailing to a mooring, whisker pole, down wind docking and offshore safety.


U.S. Sailing Certification Small Boat Sailing Level 2

12 years-Adult

Prereq: Level 1 completed within last 6 months or instructor approval and purchase of U.S. Sailing's Start Sailing Right and Certification Record Book ($16) available at the dock. Earn U.S. Sailing Association certification with 16 hours of instruction and skill verification.


Introduction to Small Boat Racing

12 years-Adult

Prereq: Level 1 completed within the last 6 months or instructor approval. Covers pre-race sequences, racing starts, mark roundings, tactics, strategies and sportsmanship using U.S. Sailing Racing Rules.


Keelboat Cruising 1

16 years-Adult

Prereq: Basic Sailing completed within last six months or instructor approval. 16 hours of instruction follows U.S. Sailing format aboard midsized, 30', auxiliary-powered cruising boats. Course covers maneuvering under power and sail, roller furling and reefing, overboard recovery, anchoring, shipboard systems, safety equipment and coastal navigation.


Anacapa Island Sail

15 years-Adult

Prereq: Keelboat Cruising I completed within last year or instructor approval. Three to four students get a full day of sailing instruction from Ventura Harbor to Anacapa Island. Take the wheel and trim the sails, navigating, anchoring and passage planning. Date will be set when a minimum of three students enroll. Call 805-643-3612 to reserve a spot.


American Sailing Association (ASA) Certification Challenge

15 years-Adult

Earn the internationally recognized ASA: 101 Basic Keelboat, 103 Coastal Cruising, 104 Bareboat Charter and 105 Coastal Navigation Certifications. Candidates should complete our Basic Sailing and Level I courses to prepare for ASA 101 (Basic Keelboat). Then complete our Keelboat Cruising I and Coastal Navigation to prepare you to challenge ASA 103, ASA 104 and ASA 105. Fees include all textbooks, official logbook, certification validation and one year ASA membership. Call 805-643-3612 to arrange dates and for details.


Coastal Navigation

12 years-Adult

Learn the basics of Nautical Navigation using compass, plotting tools, nautical charts and G.P.S. navigational safety materials, charts and US Sailing Textbook. A great class to take with Keelboat Crusing or Passage Making. At Senior Recreation Center.


Celestial Navigation

12 years-Adult

For the individual with no experience in celestial navigation, find your position without GPS using Sextant Nautical almanac, tables and plotting sheets. Topics include Dead Reckoning, plotting, sun sights and sextants. Also by arrangement call 643-3612.


Keelboat Cruising and

Passage Making

16 years-Adult

Prereq: Keelboat Cruising I completed within last year or instructor approval. 4 students get a full day of sailing instruction from Ventura Harbor to the Channel Islands. Take the wheel and trim the sails, navigating, anchoring and passage planning.

 

Semi-/Private

Sailing/Kayaking Lessons

12 years-Adult            $55/$40

Learn sailing or kayaking skills, beginning to advanced, one-on-one or with a small group during a three-hour lesson on boats or kayaks we provide. Call 643-3612 to arrange.

Private $55 for 3 hours

Semi-private            $40/each for 3 hoursSemi-/Private


Group Sailing & Kayaking

  • The perfect activity for: class field trips, birthday parties, teambuilding events or just a family outing. Spend time on the water learning the fundamentals of sailing or kayaking. All group outings are by arrangement only please call 805-643-3612.

    Kayaking - $195 for 3 hours – 18 participants max

  • Sailing - $320 for 4 hours – 16 participants max

Introduction to Kayaking

12 years-Adult

Learn basic paddling and safety skills aboard stable and comfortable double seat (Malibu Two) kayaks exploring Ventura Harbor. Bring swimsuit, comfort top, water bottle and sunscreen. All other equipment provided. Instructor Dawn Brooks

 

Family Kayaking

5 years-Adult  

Spend quality adventure time together kayaking in beautiful Ventura Harbor. Bring comfortable clothing, hat, sunscreen and water. No experience necessary. Instructional orientation and all equipment provided.

 

Teen Kayak Splash

13-17 years     

Show up ready to get wet and have fun! No experience is necessary. We provide all equipment and skilled instructors to guide you on an awesome coastal surf adventure!

 

Coastal Kayak Cruising

12 years-Adults

Paddle your kayak (provided) offshore to see dolphins, sea lions and pelicans as you get a great workout! Bring adequate clothing, sunscreen, hat and water. Participants should have previous kayaking experience.

 

We also offer Youth, Adaptive Sailing and can accommodate special interest groups.
