Communicating: Chapter Two

This week, Ventura residents will be receiving a "Two Year Report" on how Ventura is doing in actually implementing the General Plan passed in August of 2005.

This is the third of our "annual reports" that include a "report card" on progress toward achieving the community's strategic visions.
All California cities are required to have a general plan. But very few communities actually follow their plans -- and even fewer publicly report on results.
That's too bad. Public schools are now required to report on their results. Cities should be held to the same standards.
Of course, there is not yet a standard statewide set of standards for cities. We hope that our example will help establish some reliable, objective benchmarks for measuring how well cities perform.

The Achieving the vision report that was sent out to all residential customers is very nice. I would imagine a high gloss, heavy stock publication like that cost us tax payers a pretty penny. Couldn't it have been printed on plain paper? In the balanced budget page you show how the city spends your dollar. I see nothing showing how much is spent on these ego trips or advetising for the city administration. You also show 50% of our money is spent for public safety and only 17% spent for public works. As far as I am concerned Public Works is the backbone of Public Safety. Without the street work, sidewalk repair, tree work, building repair, and other jobs Public Safety does there would be no "Public Safety". Don't you agree?

Communication? Ventura Harbor Patrol shuts down their Harbor two days before the huge lobster opener! Where is the communication? The City needs to address this huge mistake now! How about Communicating with the fisherman to come up with a safe resolution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Rick,
You might want to check out WWW.GETBENTSPORTFISHING.com, there is currently a lot of things going on that the city might want to look into, it looks like there could be possible lawsuits coming down the line that might be avoidable!cylcolts

Midtown is so low on open space & parks, why are we trying to fill in every empty lot and old car lot with 3-story buildings. How about some parks? Why is the priority given to non-residents? Aren't the residents wishes most important? I used to think that developer fees out-weighed property taxes, but I see that isn't so. So why do the developers seem to get what they want over the protests of the citizens? Something seems fishy about this.
