Christy Weir was first elected to the Ventura City Council in 2003, and was selected in December 2005 to serve as Deputy Mayor for a two-year term. She was re-elected to the Council in 2007, at which time her fellow councilmembers selected her as Mayor.
In her professional life, Christy has been a schoolteacher and Managing Editor at Gospel Light Publications and freelance editor and writer.
In 1986, Christy received an "Outstanding Young Women of America" Award. She was the founding president of a Chapter of NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), and has received much recognition in the community as the founder of the Grant Park Conservancy.
Christy has actively participated in a number of community activities, including serving as a founding board member for the Downtown Ventura Organization, board member of the Ventura Music Festival, and member of the CSUCI Dean’s Advisory Council.
Christy was born in Santa Barbara, and she and her husband, Tim, have lived in the City of Ventura since 1985. She has two grown children, Erin and Jeremy, and five grandchildren. In her leisure time, Christy enjoys sea kayaking, playing guitar and piano, bicycling, sculpting, painting and traveling. Christy earned her BA degree, Magna Cum Laude, in Liberal Studies, with a Concentration in Art, from Cal State University Channel Islands.
